Outstanding Genoese chest of drawers, made during the transitional phase between Louis XV and Louis XVI styles. The serpentine front displays exceptional marquetry with figural motifs, using precious woods enriched with ivory and mother-of-pearl of remarkable finesse.
At the centre, a scene with an “Inca” mask and exotic figures presents a rare and intriguing iconography, an elegant reference to Genoa’s cultural and trade links with the Americas during the 18th century. The handles feature silver and bronze medallions. The top, broccatello marble from Spain, matches the stature of the piece.
A work of extraordinary rarity, highly representative of the Genoese cabinetmaking tradition in its decorative richness, quality of materials, and originality of design.
