These rare finely carved, red-lacquered and giltwood consoles are distinguished by its neoclassical sobriety and precision. The red-lacquered wood is richly enhanced with gilded ornamentation.
The front apron features stylized vegetal motifs and a central medallion with the profile of a Roman emperor, a clear homage to antiquity and the antiquarian taste typical of Grand Ducal Tuscany. The tops are in breccia violacea marble, with strong veining and vibrant colors that provide a refined contrast to the warm red-and-gold base. Tapering and fluted legs.
Likely crafted by a Tuscan workshop active between Florence and Siena, these consoles stand out for the quality of their lacquer and carving, on par with furnishings commissioned for Medicean residences and noble palaces.
