An important Genoese console table, mid-18th century, reflecting Louis XV taste as interpreted in the Ligurian Rococo idiom.
The carved and gilt frame displays a rich rocaille repertoire of scrolls, stylised shells and foliage, arranged with an elegant interplay of solids and voids across the frieze and stretchers. The carving incorporates the characteristic naturalistic pellaccia motifs associated with Genoese production of the period. A fine fior di pesco marble top completes the piece.
An old ink inscription on the wood reads: “1773 il 3 di ottobre. Comprato da me Girolamo Augusto Pastorelli”.
