Description
Tempera on parchment depicting The Presentation at the Temple, set within a richly ornamented 17th-century Baroque frame
Details

This intimate composition captures Mary presenting the Christ Child to the high priest, while Joseph watches in silent reverence. At the foot of the altar, two doves reference the ritual offering required by Mosaic Law.

Despite its small scale, the work conveys remarkable expressive power. The confident line, luminous palette, and animated expressions reveal the hand of a refined miniaturist working on precious material. The gilded halo and drapery rendered in deep ultramarine and carmine red lend the scene symbolic weight and devotional intensity.

The miniature is mounted within a richly carved wooden frame of the same period, adorned with sweeping Baroque scrolls and original gilding—an evocative setting that enhances its sacred purpose and visual splendour.
